WEST GROVE -- West Grove area children, buoyed by their anticipation of Christmas, gave Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus a warm welcome on Thursday night.
About 200 people gathered in the middle of town to watch the town tree light up and share their desires for gifts with the Clauses.
The Avon Grove Library did its part to play host to the crowd, opening up its community room for children to meet Santa and offering crafts and cookies. Members of a local Girl Scout troop were on hand to help young hands put together ornaments for taking home.
Mayor Steve Black led singing but had plenty of help. Members of the West Grove Garage youth center brought musical instruments to accompany the songs.
Amid the music, Black took time to count down, and with a flick of the switch, the tree lit up.
A few minutes later, a West Grove fire truck drove in, light flashing and sirens blaring. When it arrived, Mr. and Mrs. Claus got out and were immediately surrounded by children. As they made their way to the library community room, kids grabbed hands with the Clauses and followed them to the library.
With great patience and charm, the couple listen to desires and posed for pictures.
The arrival of Santa is an annual event in the borough.
